TheRealWorld

Forgive me for doing a good impression of a world-weary celebrity,

but I had some kind of epiphany last night, after watching the disastrous but critically-acclaimed film, Nine. The films had looked amazing in the trailer, with all the making of an incredibly memorable evening; glamour, sex, singing and sensational stars.

However, that was all it had. It had all of the above ingredients, and on the surface, it looked amazing. But once one got half an hour into the films, one realised there would be nothing more than that. It was merely a frivolous homage to glamour and the media industry with no meaning behind it at all.

Comparing this to the film Avatar, made the whole world in which I have been living for the past few months, seem so gaudy and superficial.
I had been amazed by that film, making me wish I could have that kind of connection with the world around me, and feeling incredibly selfish and destructive.

Since moving away to university, it made me realise how little I see the environment anymore. Even living in this city stops me from seeing the environment every day, except for in superficial little gardens dotted around. Back home, I could hop on the bus and go to the beach, or the forest, and was surrounded by countless environmental centres. But I just took them for granted.

It is with this renewed inspiration that I have decided to get back in touch with the environment, and the real world around us.

Hair

Been researching different ways of portraying hair in fashion illustrations for an art project I'm doing. Wanted something floaty and swirly but not too frumpy.

Found some beautiful images. Love the elongated bodies and faces in fashion drawings, so elegant.

Strange but moving video about a porn actress, who is now in her seventies, talking about her passion for it and remembering what it was like in her prime. Disturbing in parts but also wierdly inspiring.

Photographs from 'Above' Magazines first editiorial, about the creation of life.
It is very organic and fluid; love the way all the models move like animals, the photographs are very instinctual and natural. The series is made even more mysterious by the presence of the moon in most of them.

Jason Last videos.

Just discovered him and think he is an amazing video maker. All the videos are so ethereal and mysterious. They are so simple yet effective; I really want to try making some of my own.
